Signs of Hope and Change [Nov. 5th, 2008|11:30 am]
[Tags|]
[Current Location |my apartment]
[music |the national | mr. november]

Today is a historic day for the United States, and I could not be happier to be an American right now.

First and foremost, thank you to everyone who voted yesterday. Thank you for answering your civic duty, and thank you for being a part of the process which makes us Americans. I am proud to say I voted for Barack Obama, and I am excited in the new direction I hope his presidency brings to America. I hope that you, too, will support our president-elect.

Barack's speech last night in Chicago contained some important words, words which I repeat for you now:

"What began 21 months ago in the depths of winter cannot end on this autumn night.

"This victory alone is not the change we seek. It is only the chance for us to make that change. And that cannot happen if we go back to the way things were.

"It can't happen without you, without a new spirit of service, a new spirit of sacrifice.

"So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other."

There is still work to be done. There are still causes to support. There is still money to be donated. There are still letters to be written, rallies to be attended, voices that are still unheard. Obama brings hope to the White House, hope for the dawn of a new, stronger America. But hope doesn't fix anything on its own; we must continue to act and stand up and speak.

I hope everyone is excited about the history made on November 4, 2008, but I also hope we don't stop caring about the news, and politics, and the state of the American government. I want us all to continue to make a difference everyday. Barack's supporters have been thanked time and time again through emails, Facebook messages, letters, and text messages. The campaign was invigorating and exciting, and millions of people mobilized in support.

It cannot stop today. It cannot stop after the Obama steps into the White House, and it cannot stop when Obama leaves the White House.

We can make a difference. We can see change. We can hope for a better future. We can make history. Yes we can. Yes we can.

RIP LJ? [Aug. 12th, 2005|02:31 pm]
I'm thinking about saying farewell to my journal. What do you all think?

Edit 4:53 PM: I think it's funny that the main people who are saying "No" are people that I don't know very well in the real/non-LJ world. Maybe it's a sign I should just stay on the computer and not go outside anymore.

lost and naked in the city again [Mar. 31st, 2004|11:44 am]
[mood | nostalgic]
[music |hot hot heat]

i just finished cleaning out my desk drawer and going through a sort of "memory box" that i keep in my cloest. it seems that a lot of things are missing from there and that a lot of stuff had to go. i finally threw out some of the stuff i had from april freshman year but not all of it. something just told me to hold on to it. i also found a stack of stuff from laura and a lot of stuff from megan from even before we were dating. it was weird and i don't know why i did it today but i did.

i also found my autographed ben thamann hillside ticket and 2 ben thamann set lists. those things made me happy. i also found a few pictures and a ton of flyers and tickets to shows i've been to. music makes me happy because i never really associate sadness with music because even in my darkest hours songs have made things better.

get in or get out.

the only girl i've ever loved was born with roses in her eyes [Mar. 31st, 2004|10:43 am]
[mood |lazy]
[music |neutral milk hotel, saves the day]

biology was surprisingly fun and not boring today. dr. dobbins was in a good mood and we exchanged pleasant conversation. and i thought today was going to suck when i got up... after bio i ran into alex and talked to him for a few minutes before getting some chocolate milk and heading back to the dorms. i played some ghost recon only to realize that i can't go back a mission and also that i am not very good at the game. oh well, i still like it. ian and i are going to ownzor that game next year.

tomorrow i sign up for living in bonaventure. i'm excited.

someone needs to just give me a lot of money. like, lots.

i don't know what i'm going to do the rest of the day. probably get a shower. maybe eat food. possibly do something productive. most likely i'll sit around all day, take a shower right before night class, and get nothing done but i wouldn't mind that either. i'm well aware of the fact that i'm lazy.
link2 comments|post comment

fever claw [Mar. 31st, 2004|03:05 am]
i started playing ghost recon again the other day when ian came over to hang out. i have since beaten 2 missions, only one satisfactory though because i lost two men in bravo during the last mission so i think i'm going to have to replay it. i usually start over when i lose guys but the missions are getting so hard that i never want to have to do the whole thing over again. i didn't realize, until the other day when karsten told me so, that you can save at any point during a mission so what i'm going to start doing is accomplishing one small objective at a time and then saving the game so that if i do end up losing a man, i can just load the last save point and move on from there. war is a lot cooler when its just a fictional video game and not when your friends' lives are on the line fighting for a cause they couldn't even begin to explain and justify.

i talked to lauren haake some today. she was one of my sister's friends from way back in the day and consequently one of my friends, too. i think i talk to her now more than my sister does but that's besides the point. it was good chatting with her.

i can't really remember what all i did today or in what order. i think thats because i took a nap and broke my day into two parts. however, i did go to class where sean read a story with lots of potential, went to best buy with jayso and saw random lauren chick that we have called mary in the past, ate dinner with jayso, ian, and sean, and watched the texas chainsaw massacre. i also played video games with kyle and talked to kate at some point in the evening as well. and let's not forget watching futurama with megan. i think thats everything i did in a tarintino style timeline. now you just have to figure out what it all means.

sean talked about some music quiz thing and didn't post the quiz itself. i wanted to do it because it involed music.

sean and i also went to kroger at like two in the morning. i got gatorade and he got pringles. it was a very urgent trip, i must say.

well, its 3 am now. i hardly ever stay up this late anymore. jayso is working away on homework. i was just playing video games. maybe i should sleep or read some more of a seperate peace (i'm on chapter 9) or just go to bed. i'm really dreading class tomorrow because its a wednesday and those last forever.

someone remind me to call my grandma. she sent me a birthday card and a nice gift and i need to call and thank her.

also, i need to remember to get some boxes from somewhere to start taking things home. i'm going to take a bunch of stuff home over easter break, like a carload of stuff, and then take the rest home when i get out of school. school is almost over and i must say that i will be damn happy when it is.

oh! good band name again today but i forgot what it was. something to do with stalkers, thats all i remember. i'll have to look through my notebooks and find it.

i tried my best to feed her apetite
keep her coming every night

so, the new version of texas chainsaw massacre isn't nearly as cool as the original. maybe thats why i keep not paying attention to it. oh well, i guess i'll watch the rest of it, read a bit, and then go to bed. hope y'all had a good day.

until the day i die [Mar. 29th, 2004|02:48 pm]
[music |story of the year]

class was boring. lunch sucked. its raining. blah.

went to best buy with jayso and yale. i got megan's birfday prezents and they are pretty good ones. i hope she likes.

since i was there, i bought stuff, too. i picked up story of the year because not for the death of me can i get "until the day i die" out of my head. i hope the rest of the cd is good enough to listen to more than twice. it doesn't seem too bad so far but it doesn't seem excellent either. i also finally got the maroon 5 cd after well over a year of debating whether or not to pick it up. kara's flowers is thanked in liner notes which is funny because they are kara's flowers.

long hair is for girls.

also! music tech show tonight at 7:30 in cralle. admission is free! you should check it out.

update: 4 songs into the CD. you can really tell it was produced by john feldman (goldfinger). it reminds me of the used a bit, too, but not enough to make me mad. yet. i think they should have cut back on the programming and things like that but it doesn't sound terrible, just kind of lame. oh well. at least i have that one song...

the end has no end [Mar. 29th, 2004|12:46 am]
[music |strokes]

today today today...
i finally got up for real around 3 when my mom called to tell me my sister was on her way back with my laundry basket. i got up and changed and got food with kyle and angel and that was good 'cos i had 2 cheeseburgers. i came back and cleaned up a little bit and started putting my clothes away and things like that. jason and i listened to the white album and hung out for a bit. my sister called and i saw chris boyd for a minute and then put away those clothes. i sat around and read a seperate peace and then went upstairs to watch the basketball game. after watching the duke/xavier game, jayso and i played some medal of honor: rising sun and ordered food from the cafe. the food was subpar so when angel offered spaghetti i was happy to eat some more. i hung out and talked for a bit and then went wandering about for a while. i found kate outside k/n and went up to talk to noah while he played pool with kate. sean showed up and i went to hang out with him and this maggie girl and eventually hannah the ra. we talked about steve (music tech teacher) and parties and the amazing lawn gnome story that they simply didn't believe. if you don't know the lawn gnome story, ask me about it. also i gave megan a present today. it was just a little sacred heart ring i found and i figured she'd like it. she was busy doing some psych test most of the evening but hung out for a while during spaghetti times. now, though, bode just asked me to go get ice cream with him and his roommate dan hicks so i think i'm going to do that and then go to bed. i really don't want to go to biology tomorrow but i've skipped that class way too many times. somethings you just (gotta) do.

gosh that party was freaking ridiculous.

thank you to connor/jesse/ian/noah for throwing the party. my guess is it might be the last one for a while. well, at least until noah turns 21.

hope y'all had fun. i certainly did. and if you weren't there, you missed out.

now though...
i just went to the cafe with kilz0r and angel. i got 2 cheeseburgers and they were oh so greasy good and my tummy is happy for a while. kyle apparently got pretty wild last night which makes me laugh. i'm waiting for my sister to call and tell me she's here so i can get my laundry basket of clothes i left at home. also, megan just got off work so i'll probably go visit her. that's all for now. i need to find something productive to do with my time. maybe read or write or something. just as long as i'm not playing around on the computer or playing video games all day i'll be happy. peace (out) bra.

[mood |i rule]

tonight has been pretty nice. i took a nap and then was headed over to hack with sean and i stopped to talk to megan's roomie beth and her friend adriene(sp?) for a few minutes about how rachel bilson is so hot. apparently she's in the new maxim so i must pick that up soon. hacking with sean was a good time as he was skipping out of being on duty for a bit. we hung out in the residence life office for a bit and he gave me a white stripes poster which is jam ass. i came back to anni and stopped by the halo tourney but didn't stick around long 'cos i wasn't playing and that made me want to play. also, i talked to brendan on the phone for a little bit which was nice. i'm contemplating going over to hang out with him but first i'm waiting for megan to get off work so i can see her 'cos she's my precious. tomorrow is dinner at bonefish. i'm so stoked.

i never posted the track list for my 21st birthday mix. or if i did i forgot about it already. anyways, here it goes...

[mood |full]
[music |jay-z]

its been a while since i've had a proper post. see? thats a joke 'cos my definition of "a while" is apparently more than 12 hours.

i don't know what i mean by that. honest.

so last night turned out to be a really good time. kyle, ian, and i had cocktail hour and then sean drove us to the honors dinner, which wasn't all that special. we had a lot of fun on the way there, rockin' out to my new mix cd and yelling at people, but once we were there it was kind of boring. oh well, i didn't expect much out of it. afterwards, kyle, yale, angel, and i went to applebee's where i got 2 beers for free and waited for everyone else to show up so we could go out for real. jesse, jason connor, ian, ben, and kelly showed up and we headed to the back door. jesse and connor played pool and i sat and talked with ben, kelly, and ian and had a really good night. at first i didn't even want to go out because i still don't feel well but i'm glad i went. when i got back, i stopped by karsten and kyle's room and then spent the night in megan's room. i bet she wanted to kill me because i got back at like 1:30 and i was just talking forever but eventually i went to sleep and she kept me safe and warm. today i woke up and got my classes registered (back to that in a moment) and hung out with yale for a while and then hung out in kyle's room while he played true crime. i just ate a really great dinner at koster's (can you believe it?) so i'm kind of full and a bit tired. jayso is rearranging the room again and listening to "the black album" which i think is inferior to "the grey album" but i've only heard this once. tonight thursday and piebald are playing but a) i don't have a ticket and b) no one wants to go with me so i guess i'm not going. i think i'm going to take a nap and then hang out. tomorrow is home and dinner and etc.

i'm really surprised how much i like the latest suicide machines album. their self-titled album disappointed more than a few and i don't know anyone who listened to "steal this record." this album feels like a hearty mix of destruction by definition and battle hymns. its heavy on political issues and youth concerns. these guys are a good band doing a good thing. plus, they were my first real punk show.

southern california's breeding mommy's little monster [Mar. 23rd, 2004|02:51 pm]
[mood |kickin' it]
[music |blink-182]

i think blink-182 using a social distortion reference is wicked rad. i don't know why i think that, i just do. anyway.

i read my short story in class today and i think it went over really well. i got a lot of good feedback and i think it turned out way better than i thought. smock really seemed to enjoy it, too. it was holden-esque and i think that directly correlates to the fact that i was reading catcher in the rye while i was writing this story. basically, i'm pretty happy with it.

after class i went and finally stopped by and saw dr. west. we talked about classes and grad school and honors. i'm going to do a creative thesis for sure, take the GRE and apply to grad school, and register on thursday. so that was a good visit. the only thing that sucked is that bellarmine's registar sucks it and i have to take another history class even though i already have six hours of history credit. gen eds are a waste of my effing time.

so tonight is bw3's and birthday fun. tomorrow is class then honors dinner then out to the bars. thursday is the thursday concert. friday is home for dinner with the family. saturday is the big party. this week seems pretty good so far and i only have 1 class left for the week.

robert smith is a genius. disintergration is the best album ever.

crazy about you [Mar. 22nd, 2004|07:45 pm]
[mood |crappy]
[music |built to spill]

Trust is a weird thing
Make you crazy
Make you jealous
Make you wish you hadn't said a thing

And I guess I have been mean
But I'm only second guessing you
Cause you won't even let me through

And I want to be happy
And I only want you
If you think that I'm crazy
I'm just crazy 'bout you
Crazy 'bout you

And love is a wonderful thing
Make you wanna
Make you need to
Make you wish you hadn't said a thing

Baby I have been mean
But I'm only second guessing you
Cause you won't even let me through

And I want to be happy
And I only want you
If you think that I'm crazy
I'm just crazy 'bout you
Crazy 'bout you

Baby I want you
Honey I need you
I know you want to
I can feel you

And I want to be happy
And I only want you
If you think that I'm crazy
I'm just crazy 'bout you
Crazy 'bout you

the gallagher house [Mar. 22nd, 2004|12:46 pm]
i finished writing my short story. there are probably a lot of errors and things like that but that is what the writing workshop tomorrow is for. if you want to read it, go ahead and let me know what you think. its kind of long, about 6 pages double spaced so be prepared to take a little bit of time to do so.
